This wabi sabi inspired low table is crafted from a solid slab of cypress pine, chosen for its rich golden tones and distinctive grain. The timber has been charred using the traditional Shou Sugi Ban method, a Japanese wood-burning technique that reveals striking textures and gives the piece its deep, dark finish.
Across the surface, the hand-carved design brings a unique artistic layer to the design. Inspired by natural forms and celestial geometry, the carving creates a subtle interplay of light and shadow against the charred timber, making each viewing angle different. The live edges and irregular contours of the log are preserved, allowing the table to retain its raw, organic presence.
Sealed with natural wax and oil, the surface is durable yet tactile, inviting touch as much as visual appreciation.
Perfect as an altar, or small ceremonial table for tea, this piece embodies the meeting of ancient craft and contemporary design.
